Year 6

Welcome to The Year 6 Page!

Welcome to our Year 6 page and welcome to our new children and parents!

We are Mrs Davies, Miss Raftery, Mrs Anderson and Miss Blackburn.

Our new, enquiry-based Learning Challenge Curriculum is now fully embedded and we have a great deal of exciting projects to take on. We will have a really strong focus on grammar and how it improves our writing in all of our subjects.

We are really proud of how well the children have settled into Year 6. They are setting a great example to the younger pupils in the school and are always trying thier best, this is all we ask for.

Maths has so far focused on written methods for the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to ensure children have a secure method to calculate.  We will be using and applying maths across the curriculum through BIG MATHS - showing how the things that we learn day to day are used and applied in real life situations.  Reasoning about maths is a huge area to focus on and we are encouraging children to think mathematically to discuss and explain a wide range of concepts.

This term, in other subjects we will be studying the Ancient Islamic Civilisation and the imapct it has on our lives today. In Science we are going to find out if we could survive in the rainforest - we are looking forward to our trip to Chester Zoo as part of this topic! We will also be reading 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell to set the mood..

In Spanish, Miss Leyland will be teaching the children all about holidays, weather and the planets!

PE will be taught on Thursday afternoons. 6R will also have PE on Friday afternoon.  Please make sure your child has their kit in school every week.

Homework will be given out every Thursday to be returned on or before the following Thursday.

Swimming will be every Friday until the Christmas break.  Please ensure your child has the correct kit, including a swimming hat.

Learning styles - We will be doing lots of active learning - moving around the room, school and garden to share our ideas, mixing with new people and debating our points of view and ideas.

As always, we are here to help and support both your child and you throughout the year, so please call school to make an appointment to see us if you have any queries or concerns.

Please use  links at bottom of page to help with your learning when not in school, as they will be useful for you SATs revision.
