Clothing for Forest School
Forest School sessions will take place in all weathers (except in high winds), all year round.
There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad kit!
Parents and carers are asked to supply their children with adequate kit for Forest School. This will not only allow the children to be comfortable but will mean they will get the most out of the experience. Children who do not bring full Forest School kit will stay in school and miss that week's session. Phone calls will not be made home for forgotten kits. Even if the weather seems fine and dry, waterproofs will be required.
The following kit will be required:
- waterproof coat
- fleece jacket
- long-sleeved top
- vest / t-shirt
- long trousers (waterproof if possible)
- warm, thick socks (two pairs if wearing wellingtons)
- scarf (not to be worn around the fire area)
- waterproof shoes – wellingtons or walking boots
- sun hat in summer
- sun cream on sunny days
Layers of thinner clothing are better than thick, chunky clothes. Layers can be removed if the weather improves so we recommend lots of thin layers of clothes.
Clothes should be old. Children will get wet, muddy and clothing may get damaged. Therefore old clothing should be worn. The school cannot be held responsible for any damages to clothing or footwear.
We are also suggesting that, as a precaution, some form of insect repellent should be provided in your child’s Forest School kit so that they can apply it themselves before setting off (unfortunately, adults cannot apply it to the children). Supermarkets have some insect repellent sprays and wipes which are easy to apply.
