Welcome to the Year 6 Page
We are Mrs. Davies, Miss Bromley, Miss Blackburn, and Mr. Walsh. Miss Raftery will be rejoining the Year 6 team at the end of this term.
Our curriculum is full of exciting topics and we have a lot of interesting projects to take on. We will have a really strong focus on grammar and how it improves our writing in all of our subjects.
We are really proud of how well the children have settled into Year 6. They are setting a great example to the younger pupils in the school and are always trying their best. This is all we ask for.
In maths we have focused on the written methods for the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to ensure children have a secure method to calculate.
We will be using and applying maths in our lessons and across other curriculum areas – showing how the things we learn day to day are used and applied in real-life situations. Reasoning about maths is a huge area to focus on and we are encouraging children to think mathematically to discuss and explain a wide range of concepts.
Our guided reading book this term is Holes by Louis Sachar.
The children are enjoying reading the book and answering questions.
This term, in other subjects, we will be studying the Mayan civilisation and contrasting events with British history.
In Science, we are learning all about animals including humans, with a focus on the circulatory system.
In Spanish, Miss Leyland will be teaching the children all about holidays, weather and the planets!
PE will be taught on Thursday afternoons. Children should come to school in their PE kit on Thursday morning so they are ready for PE straight after lunch. In colder weather, children should wear a pair of unbranded, dark-coloured tracksuit bottoms and their school jumper. Please note that school trousers may not be worn for PE lessons. Please make sure your child comes to school in the correct PE kit each week.
Homework will be given out every Thursday to be returned on or before the following Thursday.
Swimming will take place at a later date throughout the year due to the temporary closure of Wavertree pool.
As always, we are here to help and support both your child and you throughout the year, so please call school to make an appointment to see us if you have any queries or concerns.

In maths, we have been applying our multiplication skills to investigate finding a variety of products. Mrs Davies and Miss Bromley really challenged the children but good fun was had by all. Headteacher's Welcome SEN Ofsted Report Term Dates
